Au Literati – Literary Lounge

A social establishment where literary minds meet dinner parties. Reading enthusiasts are invited to sip and share their hot takes in steamy discursive discussions at the ‘Supper Club’.

tHE INVITATION

Au Literati extends an invitation to you dearest gentle reader, to experience a spellbinding dinner party where we listen and definitely critique the genre of the month. Do you love themed parties inspired by character archetypes? Creative and decadent cocktails that immerse you in another world? Or perhaps you would like to wine and dine by candlelight in a romantically or platonically intimate and chic manner? Au Literati aims to provide an interactive ‘third space’ and dining experience where creatives and artists can engage in various topics of interests. Whether it’s writing your musings on the parchment paper besides the charcutier spreads, engaging in witty banter and humours facts in a game of trivia, or finding a nook to unwind and enjoy the night out with the occasional night cap and open mic entertainment. If any of these activities are speaking to your desire for revelry and serendipitous encounters, seek and you shall find… that the portal to your fantasises begins at the doorstep of the Au Literati Cocktail Bar & Restaurant.

BEHIND THE LOGO

Au Literati translates to ‘the literati’ a well-educated person and enthusiast of literature. I’ve always held interests in a good book, a gripping story and the occasional night cap. The only problem was that I have no one to share my musings with. Leaning on that familiarity I sketched out a logo design that combines a martini and an open book. My intention was that when the audiences’ eyes fall onto the logo, they’ll recognise it right away, how familiar it feels and to hopefully have the courage to ‘put themselves out there’ by re-entering spheres that are otherwise derelict to their favourite haunts. What began as a passion project is now an exploration into the Third Space and how to disrupt the digital spheres by returning to authentic human interactions. The idea was simple, a cocktail bar, a vibey atmosphere and intimate setting which evolved into an interactive dining venue where creatives and artists can mingle and freely express their niche and interest. I believe the desire to be heard and seen, far greatly outweighs the performative roles of the First and Second space personas we craft for ourselves.

mENU dESIGN & iLLUSTRATIONS

The reasoning behind the design of the menu and hand drawn illustrations was intended to reflect Au Literati’s bold, romantic and chic brand identity inspired by staple gothic literature iconographies such as – The Chalice, Candelabra, Decorative Dagger, Hand Mirror and Antique Key. I used repeated motifs of ornate and organic shapes that resembles the femininity of ‘Corinth Columns’ to pay homage to the Greek philosophy school of thought and to my earlier conceptualisation of Au Literati.

COLOUR PALETTE

The colour palette is heavily indulgent in the aesthetics of limited-edition release of Classic literature novels. In particular I was inspired by the Hemmingway Books – Deluxe Hunger Games Collection. I chose deep rich tones to illicit the refinery and elegance of woman sipping wine by a warm fire while engrossed in her literary fantasises.
