Duck Scout is an animated series designed to inspire and educate young children during their developmental years. The visual concept promotes a safe, engaging, and educational experience that encourages curiosity beyond the classroom, teaching lessons about the natural world, social values, and everyday life through fun and meaningful storytelling.

From 2017 to 2018, a study showed that 16% of children spent over 20 hours a week on screens; however, this figure later rose to 24% (ABS, 2013b). As technology is being rapidly implemented into our society, there is no certainty that screen time for children will decrease. While this cannot be changed, what they view online can be improved.
‘Duck Scout’ educates and inspires young children in their developmental phases of growing up. This unique visual identity showcases a safe, entertaining, and educational aspect that children will engage with and enjoy regularly, demonstrating how learning goes beyond the classroom. By teaching real-life skills, this show aims to create a collective community among the growing generation, enabling them to understand and learn social and emotional skills, and allowing children to be active and creative.
As some children’s TV shows focus more on entertainment than education, ‘Duck Scout’ was inspired by extensive research and reviews from other shows. This directed the design to have a pastel-like theme following a motif that consisted of child-like illustrations, patterns, and fonts.
An opening introduction/trailer to the series is provided to illustrate what the show is about and introduce the characters. The red indicates camera movements such as panning or zooming in/ out, while the blue shows the description and numbering of each shot.
By maintaining a strong social reputation, the show would also foster community engagement, particularly among parents and guardians. The website would outline the show’s goals and objectives, alongside review and forum pages where parents can share comments and feedback. While this would benefit parents and guardians, the website would also feature activities and games for children, encouraging them to engage, play, and create.
